St. Mary’s belfry has 6 bells, the heaviest of which weighs three quarters of a ton, or about 760 kilos. We are in the Western Division of the Sussex County Association of Change Ringers.
Our practice is on Tuesday between 7:45 and 9:00 pm with Sunday Service ringing from 9:00 to 9:30 am except for the first Sunday every month, when the ringing is from 10:45 till 11:15 am
We are always willing to welcome new people who are interested in ringing. There is no age limit, although it is best if you are between 11 and 80 and reasonably active. The primary aim of ringing is to call people to Church, but it is a hobby that enables you to meet new people, and make new friends.
We usually have an outing each year to visit and ring at other churches. In previous years, we have visited towers around Dorchester, Isle of Wight, Basildon and Basingstoke. This year we are hoping to return to the Isle of Wight to ring at new venues to us, such as Carisbrook Castle.
For further details, or just to come along and see what goes on, see our notice on the belfry door.
